The tour of the LOISIUM world of wine takes you in the cellar labyrinth beneath the wine town Langenlois. Enyoy the mystical, thrilling and unique journey in the world of wine.
In the cellars there is all year round average temperature of 12°C. Therefor we recommend wearing outerwear.
On this 1.5 km tour, immerse yourself in the originality of the Lower Austrian world of wine, its mysticism and its history.
The vintner house number 10 is only one of the 15 points of interest during the tour of the cellar. Its romantic courtyard and the former house of the Loiskandl family invite you to take a break.
Our cellar tour in detail:
1_Visitor’s Centre: The striking aluminium cube designed by
2_Vineyard Path: Learn about the work in the vineyard the vintner has to do during the 4 seasons of the year.
3_Entrance Gate: The sign language embedded in the wall around the entrance gate tell the history of winemaking in Langenlois.
4_Fermentation Vault & Show: The visitor „as grape“ experiences the transformation from must to wine in a multimedia show.
5_Old Cellar: Discover the up to 900-year-old cellars and learn about the former wine production and development of the viniculture.
6_"10er Haus": In the house number 10 of the family Loiskandl you can explore what life was like for the winegrowers in the former
century – it still smells like freshly baked bread, the crackling noise in the stove can still be heard…
7_Old Press House: A film of the 1920s documents the hard work of the winegrower during harvest, the manual processing of the grapes with the press and the Christening of the wine at the Martini festival on November 11th.
8_Aroma Point: Challenge your „fine“ nose and guess the aromas of the Grünen Veltliner.
9_Wine & Sekt Cellar Steininger: In the modern winery, you pass the wine production with an elevator and watch the current wine
technology – from grape to bottle. An introductive film informs you about sparkling wine production.
10_Loess Altar: Without the important soil in the valley of the Kamp - the loess, there would be no wine in the region! Accessible loess walls invite you to leave a personal mark.
11_Labyrinth: Wine & Myth - seven installations explain the eternal rhythm of the moon in a wine-growing year, the energy
of the myths. The labyrinth symbolizes the time and tranquility a wine needs to ripen.
12_Basilica: In the grand vaults, within a sea of lights, experience the sacred meaning of grape and wine. The winemaker’s
dependence on the weather can be sensed in the tall weather tower.
13_Sun Reflexes: Like looking in a glass of wine in which the captured sunrays of a year reflect.
14_Festival Hall: Birth, love and saying goodbye – each moment of life is dedicated to one of
three chandeliers that can be set in motion by touch.
15_Sekt Bubbles: Floating bubbles – just like the bubbles in sparkling wine– can playfully be moved or burst, before returning
to the visitor’s centre, where the various Lower Austrian wines can be tasted or purchased at excellar prices.
